Die NATO bei der Piratenbekämpfung mit der Operation Allied Protector

Die Standing NATO Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1) ist eine maritime Komponente der NATO Response Force (NRF), sie bekämpft im multi-nationalen Verband in der Operation Allied Protector im Golf von Aden und am Horn von Afrika in der Gewässern vor Somalia die Piraterie, die die Handelsschiffahrt beeinträchtigt und die Seewege gefährdet. Die Videos vermitteln eine guten Einblick in die vielfältige, schwierige Aufgabe der Marine-Soldaten und geben eine Übersicht über die beteiligten Nationen und Kriegsschiffe.
Der Betriebsstoffversorger SPESSART (A 1442) der deutschen Marine kommt in den Videos auch vor, die SPESSART wurde selbst schon zum Piraten-Angriffsziel.
Das Allied Maritime Component Command Headquarters ist wie das EU NAVFOR Somalia Operation ATALANTA HQ in Northwood/UK ist das maritime Führungskommando im Unterstellungsverhältnis zum Joint Force Commander in Brunssum/NL (JFC) der NATO.

Part 1 gives an overview of the Gulf of Aden, one of the most important and dangerous shipping routes in the world,and explains what NATO is doing to protect ships from pirates.

In Part 2, ‘Scanning the Seas’, the crew of the NATO flagship NRP Corte-Real works to id ships in the area. This allows for faster response during emergencies, giving NATO a tactical edge.

In Part 3, ‘First contact’, reports of pirate activity start streaming in. Pirates have attacked a vessel nearby and a NATO flagship is dispatched to hunt it down.

In part 4,’The root of the problem’, a small boat is dicovered packed with refugees rather than pirates. The refugees are emblematic of the root causes of piracy in the Horn of Africa.

In part 5, ‘Distress call’, a NATO flagship receives a distress call reporting two suspicious boats. The crew must act quickly to distinguish if they’re pirates or local fishermen.

In part 7, ‘Raising the alarm’, pirates mistakenly attack a NATO flag ship on the 29th of March, the Captain of the ship recounts the attack and how the pirates were eventually captured.
